New Zealand Independance Day

25 11 2006

I find it strange that things like this, these defining events in a nations identity and therefore the identity of its citizens, are not taught in schools. Or at least weren’t taught when I was there. But for those of you who care November 25th is officially the date New Zealand became independent of Britain. Yay!

The independence of New Zealand and the other dominions, was recommended by the 1926 Balfour Declaration and implemented in the 1931 Statute of Westminster which was ratified on November 25, 1947.

The last barrier to complete legislative freedom was also removed in 1947 with the passage through the British Parliament of the New Zealand Constitution (Amendment) Act, giving the New Zealand Parliament the power to modify its own constitution.

The act also created New Zealand an independent constitutional monarchy, with the monarch of the United Kingdom remaining the monarch of New Zealand. New Zealand’s monarchy is legally separate from that of the United Kingdom.

Have trailer will travel!

23 11 2006

Well after a few years of talking about it we have finally purchased a trailer. The ever expanding amount of crap we cart around with us now means our trusty station wagon isn’t cutting it.

Trailer with lid   Open Trailer

Its amazing just how much stuff little people need, in fact the smaller the person the more the stuff!! I wonder if vertically challenged people have this problem? Love to hear from anybody there under about 4ft.

I have a new tool

20 11 2006

My name is Justin and I am a gadgetaholic.

I know I will be in deep sh*t if I buy it, buy I do it anyway. OK I’m not a freak who spends their last dime on the latest gadget. I do it on a budget and tend to get stuff a couple of years after it was new… but I just gotta get it!

So my latest crime was to buy a Navman R300 sports tool. Something I really wanted ever since I started running, well actually what I wanted was a new battery for my watch so I could time myself, but a GPS with time, distance and pace ended up being much more to my taste.

I’ve done a full review of the unit now, you can find it here.

It could happen to you!

9 11 2006

ouchRichard just emailed me in with this one. If I didn’t actually recognise the location I would of said it was one of those photo’s that does the rounds on the net… But this one is actually just down outside Renaisance in Onehunga!

"If you’re having a bad day spare a thought for Joseph in service who didn’t park in the right place this morning."

Appeared on the front page of the NZ Herald.
